What do licensed agencies do?
 

Licensed agencies assume full responsibility for all care, and are required to hire trained, licensed, and state registered staff.

They often have experienced caregivers ready to work on short notice if schedules change or a previous caretaker becomes unavailable.

  • are required to employ trained, licensed and state-registered staff.

  • often have experienced caregivers ready to work on short notice if schedules change or a previous caregiver becomes unavailable. 

  • employ all their caregivers, and assume all responsibility for caregiver hiring, employee taxes, workers comp insurance, and benefits.

  • require background and reference checks, TB tests, and fingerprinting.

  • provide continuing education and ongoing skill training for caregivers.

  • often accept Long Term Care (LTC) insurance and workers comp insurance.

  • develop and update a plan of care.

  • supervise and schedule caregivers.

What am I responsible for if I choose an unlicensed agency?

  • Insurance coverage for a care provider to work on private property.
